Formed in 2010 in the North East of England, The Mee Kats are a high-energy rockin’ trio dedicated to the authentic sound and spirit of 1950s rock ’n’ roll and rockabilly. Blending driving rhythms, twanging guitars and slap bass with a passion for vintage style, the band has become a respected name on the UK rockin’ circuit.
The band was founded by lead singer Colin Mee, a veteran of the British rockabilly scene. Colin previously played drums with well-known rockabilly outfit The Sure Shots from 1984 to 1993, and has also fronted popular rockabilly trio The Skip Rats since 1987. His decades of experience and unmistakable passion for the music are at the heart of The Mee Kats’ sound.
Joining Colin is lead guitarist Rob Brindley, from Stoke-on-Trent, who began his own rockin’ journey with his band Ignition. Completing the trio is Mandy Mee on double bass, whose dynamic playing and stage presence provide the perfect backbone to the band’s lively sound. Mandy has performed with several bands over the years and, alongside Colin, also formed hillbilly trio Root’n Toot’n. Away from the stage, she is also known for creating authentic 1950s-style clothing for men through Mandy Mee.
Since their formation, The Mee Kats have built an impressive catalogue of releases. Their recordings include a two-sided 7” vinyl single featuring the Colin Mee originals “Rag Top Baby” and “Call My Name,” as well as a string of acclaimed CD albums: Everybody’s Rockin….., All Dressed Up, Let’s Go Boppin’, and Rocket Trip.
Released in March 2014, Everybody’s Rockin….. featured the opening track “I Don’t Want It,” written by Colin Mee, which received airplay on BBC Radio Tees. In 2016, the band followed up with All Dressed Up, featuring Colin originals “Crazy Over You” and “I’m On Fire.” “Crazy Over You” was selected as Record of the Week on local BBC radio, while “I’m On Fire” had originally been written for The Sure Shots in 1986 and helped lead to a television appearance on Ben Elton’s Saturday Live.
Their latest release, Rocket Trip, arrived in October 2021, featuring a mix of hand-picked covers and brand-new self-penned material. The album showcases the band’s continued love of classic rock ’n’ roll while bringing their own fresh energy and songwriting style to the genre.
All of the band’s recordings have been produced through Skip Records

With years of experience, authentic style and an infectious love of vintage rock ’n’ roll, The Mee Kats continue to keep the spirit of the 1950s alive wherever they play..
